Global Enterprise Week 2021 - Global Growth

As always Assist is to take part in Global Enterprise Week. 

We have a fantastic panel of female founders waiting to welcome you, our host Deb McGargle will lead us through an informative, friendly and fun hour of conversation around growth, trading overseas, finance for women in business and all that comes with it. 

Our Entrepreneurs will tell you their story, the highs, the lows, the challenges and the successes - you know that we at Assist like to tell the full tale with a rounded picture and business simply is not easy, we all know that and we always keep it real. 

  • Our host on the day is Deborah McGargle, a qualified corporate and commercial UK lawyer who has enjoyed a varied career in law for over two decades. She has worked with high growth tech startups, accelerator programs and tech giants on the US East Coast. Returning to the UK, Chief Legal Officer at a London based LawTech SaaS company and currently represents a large family office in the Middle East. Deb's other roles include being former chair of Evince Technology Limited (a venture backed company developing breakthrough electron devices using synthetic-diamond), a mentor for the Santander Breakthrough Business Leaders’ Programme, an advisor to the Women's Economic Imperative (as a response to the Call to Action of the United Nations), a director of The Link Tees Valley Ltd, an advocate for the British American Business Council of New England and a non-executive director for a number of high growth tech companies. She is passionate about private investment, M&A, artificial intelligence and disruptive technology.

  • Angela Davies and Dionne Watson of CSI Training and Events Ltd and Crime Scene Assist Ltd. Two ex-police officers that have since 2012 delivered their services both nationally and internationally. They have developed and delivered, workshops, lectures, training, and corporate events, for a multitude of audiences, across a number of sectors. Ange and Dee launched their second business in 2019, this adds a nice sprinkle to their success story as they move in the tech world with their app sold through App Stores and in to Europe through licensing. 
  • Louise Cooper MD and Brand Founder for U Glow Ltd. uGlow is an innovative tanning water that is available for professionals to use in Salons with spray tan machines and more recently as a retail product. Louise started her working life as an engineer working in both the metals and plastics industries. Taking a new direction in a different environment, Louise set up her first Tanning and Beauty Salon. 25 years later - 4 beauty salons and 2 beauty training academies have been created. International trade has been a challenge, but a European presence has been established. Louise keen to share her honest ups and downs, and the hoops jumped and the boxes ticked. 

As we talk #WomenGoGlobal, we wanted to share with you and signpost to the support within the Tees Valley, this includes two businesswomen that are hands on with the practicalities of trading overseas. 

  • Lyndsay Hogg, MD of Hogg Logistics Ltd, a family run international freight forwarder and logistics provider with over 40 years experience, An award winning businesswoman who decided she would be treat fairly and created her own kingdom. 
  • Hilary Bevan of Bevan VAT Consultancy Ltd. Hilary provides VAT advice to firms of accountants, solicitors, businesses, charities, and individuals. Much of the last year has been spent getting to grips with the VAT implications of Brexit and what it means for UK businesses trading with other countries.

We will then turn our attention to 'GROWTH' and with this investment and finance is required. Deb will chat with Laura on the tough time a businesswomen in the North East can have raising finance, but it can be done!

  • Laura Hepburn, director of Middlesbrough waste-to-energy firm Greenology encourages women would-be entrepreneurs to be bold and brave. As a one-year-old startup is rewriting the recycling rulebook by using pyrolysis - the high-temperature decomposition of materials which changes their chemical composition - to make by-products, energy and fuel from car tyres. Laura found her breakthrough moment with NatWest and their Newcastle Entrepreneur Accelerator Programme. You will hear about the hurdles, hiccups and the accomplishments of this award winning determined woman.

This is not to be missed, these local women are just doing business each day and growth is in their sights. You can only learn from their experiences, their advice, their passion and their motivation to drive their businesses forward. 

We will have a little time for Q&A and as always the 'chat box' is there for more discussion during the event. We are networking so do make all effort to connect with the panel and our other guests.
