Tegucigalpa, F.M. November 13, 2023 - Today, the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Honduras is celebrated, an event that will highlight the benefits of the sector, while explaining the work carried out by the silent heroes who are the engine of the economy locally.
The global week is coordinated by the Government, through the National Service for Entrepreneurship and Small Business (SENPRENDE) in alliance with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the project Transforming Market Systems, Impact Hub Tegucigalpa, the José Cecilio del Valle University and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Honduras (FEDECAMARA).
The SGE is an international movement held every November and represents a global event of entrepreneurship promoted by the global network Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN). With the participation of millions of people in more than 180 countries, the SGE is much more than an event; is a catalyst that connects entrepreneurs around the world, inspires, educates and empowers individuals to make their dreams come true.
Entrepreneurs, Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and companies in the Social Sector of the Economy, are key pieces for the development of the nation. So far in 2023, the Government, through SENPRENDE, has achieved that more than 579 entrepreneurs can participate in business roundtables or trade missions, that 470 are selling online through a free Government platform, more than 838 entrepreneurs were trained in business development , the generation of 271 new ventures with innovation, 1,115 women are new entrepreneurs, some results of the institution.
Global Entrepreneurship Week Honduras 2023 offers a wide range of activities, from business fairs and business conferences to workshops, conferences with experts, competitions and presentations of success stories. Participants can explore opportunities, gain knowledge and make valuable contacts.
In 2022, GEW registered the organization of 36 events; 25 events on the entrepreneurship ecosystem, 10 on educational training topics, 9 regarding inclusion and 29 organizations joined the activity. 4. 830 people interacted on the national website to be part of GEW.
The world of entrepreneurship is constantly evolving, driven by innovation and technological advances. Every year, new trends emerge that are changing the way people create and grow their businesses.
For the National Investment Council (CNI), there is a projection that entrepreneurs and MSMEs make up the sector that sustains the economy, and, in addition, they are the main source of employment in Honduras.
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) is one of the pillars of the Honduran economy and plays a leading role in the reactivation and development of the country. This sector contributes approximately 70% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and creates 7 out of every 10 jobs in Honduras.
According to the World Bank, 77% of those who escape poverty do so through individual work. Formal small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) contribute up to 40% to the Bruno Domestic Product (GDP) in emerging economies and this contribution is significantly higher when small businesses that are informal are included.
