HRH the Prince of Wales announced the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week India. The Prince was on hand to officially kick-start this year’s campaign at the eco-business ‘Youth Meet’ in New Delhi, hosted by GEW national coordinator Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST).
The event was the grand-finale of the ‘Keeping our Environmental Footprint Small’ competition which has been ongoing since July. The competition is focused on raising awareness around sustainable entrepreneurship as a viable career choice for India’s youth. Successful youth ‘eco-preneurs’ at the bottom of the pyramid pitched their ideas in the presence of His Royal Highness, as well as representatives from government, the public and private sectors, the financial world, youth organizations and the mass media.
The Prince’s 5-day visit to India has been timed to coincide with the launch of the Commonwealth Games; he will also be meeting President Pratibha Patil, PM Manmohan Singh as well as a number of business leaders. BYST has been official GEW Host since the campaign’s maiden year in 2008, helping to galvanise some excellent events over the years. The organisation, built in the image of the Prince’s Trust in the UK and a member of GEW Global Partner Youth Business International, has strong links with the British heir-to-the-throne having hosted him twice previously for its inaugural and ten-year celebrations.
