Managing People

After leaving University, graduates can find themselves thrown in the deep end and thrust into a supervisory role when they might have little or no prior experience of managing staff.

This session offers an introduction to managing people, including some of the basic principles of performance management and a framework to help you get the best out of people. Apart from providing some useful tools for the future, it will help you answer any tricky questions you might get at an interview about supervising staff.

At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to work within organisational guidelines to achieve team goals
  • Understand how to plan and allocate work
  • Understand how to monitor a team’s performance against the plan
  • Understand the role of motivation in improving performance
  • Understand organisational requirements in relation to team performance
