Mission Enterprise

This year we are aiming to harness the enterprising spirit of our learners in overcoming challenges and problems faced by the college.
We hope that this will encourage co-creation. A method of generating new ideas /solutions through teamwork. Through the use of well-structured briefs, it aims to unleash individual creativity whilst enhancing Enterprise Skills.
Briefs have been set by individual subject departments - harnessing their learners uniqe skills, which will follow a framework culminating in the submission of a strategic plan to #makeithappen.
The winning team will recieve a share of £500 kindly donated to us by Barclays Bank.

Our Event:
All 4,500 full time learners at Kirklees College, will be taking part in 15 hours’ worth of Global Entrepreneurship Week activities.
Whilst promoting our activities, we will be using the hastag #GEWmake it and tagging in @kirkleescollege. So join in our online conversation.
Task
This year, we were inspired by the idea of co-creation i.e.  producing new ideas capitalising on collective creativity to jointly produce a mutually valued outcome. Co-creation requires the involvement of people in teams and it’s a process that we will boost through well-structured briefs that aim at unleashing individual creativity whilst enhancing enterprise skills.
Every department has crafted a specifically tailored brief, to meet the needs and best utilise the skills of their learners.
The project aims to develop transferable skills for working life and academic progression.
Framework:
There is a framework to support the completion of the enterprise challenges, which includes a number of activities and briefing videos that tutors can use to support the live brief. Each activity promotes the completion of the brief whilst ensuring individual development of enterprise skills.
The stages for this are:
1.       Briefing and problem framing
2.       Creative problem solving
3.       Research and opportunity identification
4.       Resource identification
5.       Strategic planning
Practical support:
Our activities are very practical and hands on, therefore it is imperative that we offer practical guidance and support throughout. Therefore, learners across our 8 different sites will be supported by business people and industry specific speakers relating to their specific challenge.
Additionally our fabulous LRC team are offering further support:
• As there is a big Project Management theme around this week, there was a big promotion of this theme in the weeks leading up to the event, including displays and guides to useful websites etc.
•A qualified patent administrator is giving regular a brief talks on patents, trademarks and copyright for business.

•In the libraries, netbooks and tablets have be set up as part of it with a dedicated enterprise feed on it to promote e-resources, sites, books which might not be physically on a stand etc.
At Kirklees College, Global Entrepreneurship Week is all about providing practical assistance that makes it easier for people to start or grow their business, so that means offering mentoring and training but also we are also offering use of college facilities and equipment.
The college are also offering financial support to the best ideas and in conjunction with Barclays bank; the wining team will receive a share of £500.
Mentoring:
Our activities are very practical and hands on, therefore it is imperative that we offer practical guidance and support throughout. Therefore, learners across our 8 different sites will be supported by business people, mentors from both inside and outside the college and industry specific speakers relating to their specific challenge.
Women's entrepreneurship:
At Kirklees College we are committed to equality and diversity and therefore encourage all our learners, whatever age, background, race, religion or sex they are.
Are briefs have been devised with equality and diversity in mind.
The video briefs have been created using role models from a cross section, including prominent women. They also have signing, to meet the need of our learners with hearing impairments.
Social Enterprise:
A number of the briefs have a social enterprise flavour including raising money for charity and supporting our local community through a variety of ways e.g. an in-house community project called ‘Bridge The Gap’ to work with local vulnerable adults.
Measuring the impact of GEW:
All learners have participated in a questionnaire released prior to GEW Week to measure their knowledge and understanding of Enterprise. This is followed up with a further survey, which measures the distance travelled and how they felt the event went. All learners will further be encouraged to take part in the official GEW survey.
