Online teacher training for key competences

An important education activity happening in Montenegro during November falling in time of the GEW 2020 celebration, which we would like to report, are the online teacher trainings for the inclusion of the new key competences curriculum framework in teaching and learning within schools.

The trainings are part of the activities of the project “Integration of key competences into the education system of Montenegro” financed under the Joint EU-MNE Programme for employment, education and social policies (i.e. Instrument for Pre-accession - IPA II), aimed to transform the teaching process to focus more on students’ competences and diversification of teaching and learning, in view of the eight key competences: literacy, multilingual, citizenship, digital, entrepreneurship, STEM, cultural awareness and expression and personal, social and learn to learn competence.

The expected number of participating teachers to be trained is around 1 860, both classroom and subject teachers of primary and secondary education. As we are all aware, teachers are the key actors in education who need our continuous support and training for meeting the needs of education in times of rapid global changes, emerging new knowledge and technologies, but also global crisis and challenges.

In terms of global education, integration of key competences in education will have long-term benefit in providing students with opportunities to acquire knowledge about the global world issues that have impact on everyone and the entire world. To learn about the interlinkages between various fields of study, use various resources, rely on and engage in research and science, gain citizenship competences to act in resolving and mitigating the risks and consequences of the global and local crises, become aware that they are the ones that could change the future for better. Finally, it will provide them with the lifelong learning competences for rethinking the world towards better future for themselves and future generations, towards sustainable development and sustainable progress.
