The fifth edition of the fastest growing annual entrepreneurship-focused event in the country, Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) organized under the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) Myanmar, would be the largest and most diverse event promoting entrepreneurship across Myanmar. During the week of Nov 14-20, more than 100 companies and businesses are joining GEW 2016 to host 60 events in country’s 14 divisions and states and expect to welcome over 8,000 participants.
Aung Paing, Accelerator Manager at Phandeeyar remarked "GEN is an important step toward economic and social growth. Entrepreneurs create wealth, build companies and employ people – but that’s not all. They also promote a more creative, critical thinking and engaged society.”
GEN in Myanmar is a year-around, nation-wide initiative, which is open, accessible and inclusive. Organised by Building Markets, scheduled events and programs aim to assist entrepreneurs unleash their creativity and talent, whilst turning these into promising new ventures.
Covering a wide range of sectors - tech, agriculture, food & beverage, fashion, social enterprise, GEN Myanmar wants to engage everyone in the entrepreneurial ecosystem; from entrepreneurs, mentors, investors, and corporations, to universities, NGOs and government agencies.
Winnie Khine, Head of Education at Myanmar Young Entrepreneurs Association remarked “We’re very excited to support this initiative and bring GEN to Myanmar. GEN is not only supporting the local startup ecosystem it's also connecting it to global entrepreneurial ecosystem”.
Connecting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Myanmar to the Global Entrepreneurship network, GEN Myanmar will be leading a delegation to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Johannesburg, South Africa on 13-16 March 2017. Delegates will include entrepreneurs, mentors, investors and other actors active in local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
