Lack of access to capital is often cited as one of the primary barriers entrepreneurs face in starting or growing a business. This report surveys the current knowledge landscape regarding access to capital with an eye towards innovative concepts for improvement to capital access systems.

This policy brief assesses the potential of entrepreneurship to be used as a tool for the integration of refugees into the labour market. It discusses the challenges faced in business creation by these potential entrepreneurs, as well as the opportunities created by their situation. It also discusses different policy approaches used to support refugees in business creation and the keys to their success. This policy brief is part of a series of reports produced by the OECD on inclusive entrepreneurship.

For the first time, the global landscape for refugee entrepreneurship support has been highlighted. The global survey analysed 39 organisations across 19 countries that are offering tailored business startup support to refugees. The survey found that their business education and support has already led to the creation of 12,960 businesses and 18,127 paid jobs – spanning food and creative industries, energy and environment, engineering, space, cyber and fintech sectors.

Seven Steps to SUCCESS: Enabling Refugee Entrepreneurs to Flourish, is a major report from the Centre For Policy Development’s Effective Government Program and the Open Political Economy Network. 

It draws on Australian and international best practice to outline policy recommendations to government, business and civil society on how to better support refugee entrepreneurs.

A research project examining refugee-owned startups, mission-driven startups helping refugees, and the accelerators that support them.

This study mapped key actors supporting newcomer entrepreneurs in 10 markets in Europe,  (Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the UK.) collecting practitioners’ insights on current capacities and barriers and selecting good practices. It highlights opportunities to strengthen support for newcomer entrepreneurs both at ecosystem and programme level.
This is an interactive resource designed to equip you with the knowledge and strategies required to meet the needs of women entrepreneurs. This handbook can be applied in the context of a women-only programme or to better support women founders within a mixed gender programme.

This policy brief, prepared by the OECD and European Commission, explores the potential of entrepreneurship policy to support the labour market participation of people with disabilities. Disabilities vary widely in type, severity, stability, duration and time of onset, and these characteristics influence individual capacities and willingness to be active in the labour market.

This report represents the voice of the entrepreneur, based on interviews and surveys with over 500 disabled entrepreneurs. It includes the findings from this research and recommendations to all parts of society on how to make the UK a better place to be a disabled entrepreneur.
The report, Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs: Removing Barriers (2023), updates the data describing the national capital access and entrepreneurial support landscape that was originally presented in the 2019 report, while also layering in data from new sources that provide greater context into the experiences and challenges facing entrepreneurs in today’s economy.
