Unleashing Innovative Ideas to a Zero Waste Economy

#GEW2022 Activating Circularity GEN Startup Kasi

Join us during Global Entrepreneurship Week as Startup Kasi and GEN Africa lead discussions on pressing topics about climate resilience strategies with Social Enterprises, Corporates, Startups, Councils, and Professionals currently leading the way in Circular Economy Development throughout Africa. Each session is free of charge; aimed at showcasing opportunities in transforming our local communities through Sustainable Development Goals and the Circular Economy.

With an aim to activate collaborative stakeholder participation in co-creating entrepreneurial opportunities in the Circular Economy in South Africa, we'll look at business opportunities in Upcycling, Recycling, Designing out waste, and Regenerative Business Systems as the few of many drivers of a waste-free economy. Let's Celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week by Activating the Circular Economy to Empower Youth in Underserved Communities.

Innovative and creative ways of managing waste in our cities can help our environment by decreasing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions whilst inspiring futuristic solutions to societal problems through entrepreneurship. We see the circular economy as a vehicle for economic development and sustainability in South African communities.

During Global Entrepreneurship Week, we're excited to bring you a week-long Hybrid Event themed Unleashing Innovative Ideas, Activating Circularity to a Zero Waste Economy which will be the first of our annual events during GEW celebrating and exploring opportunities in the South African Circular Economy.

What to expect:

  • A showcase of business case studies and presentations by entrepreneurs and organizations who are currently ideating and have implemented circular business systems.
  • Business opportunities in Recycling, Upcycling, and Designing out waste; as well as An #upcyclechallenge.
  • A stakeholders forum hosting Q&A sessions with panelists focused on Investment, Policy, and Business Development in upcycling, recycling, and designing out waste.
  • We invite young creative entrepreneurs, artists, makers, professionals, and entrepreneurs in STEM to join us in celebrating pioneers currently ideating, innovating, and taking action toward waste-free, prosperous communities.

We'll explore how the Circular Economy can help communities in South Africa and practically create Waste-to-Wealth opportunities by looking at product packaging, food systems, textiles, renewable energy, water systems, architecture, and electronics.

During the event, we'll have our panelists exchange ideas and share their expertise, exploring:

  • "What key components will drive the transformation process towards a Zero Waste Economy?",
  •  "How can it be financed and implemented?" ..and
  • "How can recyclable products and business models shape the SA industrial market?"

We’ll address these ideas, with an aim to activate and accelerate the transformation towards the circular economy and encourage private and public sector organizations - regionally and nationally in South Africa - to fast-track the road towards the Circular Economy.
