As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), innovation and enterprise took center stage worldwide. Among the many thought-provoking discussions was a unique and vital question: Should educators monetize the services they render?

This question became the foundation of a workshop delivered by CurveUp, aimed at exploring the intersection of teaching and entrepreneurship. The event attracted educators from diverse backgrounds, each bringing a unique perspective. Some viewed teaching as a noble calling dedicated to empowering students, while others were eager to embrace entrepreneurial ventures or had already undertaken professional endeavors beyond their teaching roles.

Visualizing the Edupreneur Within

The workshop commenced with a creative exercise, inviting participants to visualize themselves as entrepreneurial educators. This activity encouraged them to imagine their entrepreneurial avatar—a transformative way to shift their mindset and embrace the concept of "edupreneurship," or an educator’s journey into entrepreneurship. This opening set the stage for deeper exploration, enabling educators to connect with the entrepreneurial potential within their teaching roles.

Discovering Skills and Solutions

Participants reflected on their inherent entrepreneurial skills, many of which were already deeply embedded in their teaching professions. Skills such as problem-solving, adaptability, communication, and mentorship were identified as strong foundations for building their edupreneurial aspirations.

With first-hand insight into the challenges within the education sector, the educators brainstormed innovative solutions to address these gaps. The results were inspiring, showcasing the vast potential of educators to create impactful businesses that extend beyond traditional classroom roles.

Additionally, the session introduced educators to the art of pitching, providing them with the knowledge to effectively present their ideas to investors, customers, and partners. This critical skill empowered them to take their concepts from ideation to reality.

The Edupreneur Canvas: A Tailored Tool for Educators

To support participants on their edupreneurial journey, CurveUp unveiled the Edupreneur Canvas, a teacher-friendly adaptation of the Lean Canvas. Designed specifically for educators, this tool structured their ideas, guided their thought processes, and sharpened their entrepreneurial mindset. The Edupreneur Canvas became an invaluable resource, helping educators transition from dreamers to doers.

Inspiration from Real Stories

The workshop featured personal stories to motivate participants. Amra Luqop, an educator-turned-entrepreneur, shared her journey of transforming a passion for teaching into a successful business. Her experiences with BootUp, CurveUp’s sister company, illuminated the challenges and triumphs of edupreneurship.

The event also featured a motivational discussion led by Mohammed Fawaz, the founder of CurveUp. He inspired educators to dream big and take bold steps toward their goals. The session concluded with a symbolic pledge on social media, where participants committed to taking their first steps as edupreneurs—an impactful way to honor GEW.

Turning Ideas into Reality

As a follow-up activity, participants were invited to submit their most passionate business ideas via a Google Form. These ideas were expected to be backed by research and a clear plan of action. CurveUp assured participants that if their ideas were both inspiring and feasible, they would receive the necessary support to bring those ideas to fruition.

To maintain momentum and build a supportive community, a WhatsApp group was created, providing a space where educators could share inspiration, seek guidance, and collaborate on their entrepreneurial journeys.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

The workshop sparked vibrant discussions about educators' potential to redefine their roles beyond the classroom. As mentors, innovators, and problem-solvers, teachers are uniquely positioned to shape businesses that address critical needs in the education sector.

So, what is the perspective on this? Should educators venture beyond traditional classrooms and explore the world of entrepreneurship? During this workshop, it became evident that the possibilities are endless—and the impact, transformative.

The conversation is open: Can edupreneurship redefine education and empower teachers to make an even greater difference?
