Recently, the Guatemala Ministry of Economy released a new plan that aims to promote the entrepreneurial spirit throughout the country. The plan, known as the National Entrepreneurship Policy or “Emprende Guatemala” it aims to coordinate policies around five central areas: support of industry, funding, institutional articulation, mentality and culture, and the educational system.
Walther Morales Rios of Emprende Guatemala, a member of Startup Nations, recently shared an update on the announcement. Startup Nations is a collection of “startup savvy” policymakers and program leaders focused on exploring different regulatory changes and other policy ideas to help accelerate new and young firm formation in their economies.
Emprende Guatemala aims to carry out its plan over the course of the next fifteen years, accomplishing its goals by 2030. The country hopes that its plan will not only promote entrepreneurship but also make positive changes to the economy and quality of life for its citizens.
