Successful networking tools and techniques event for students, colleagues and Launch alumni

The event will comprise a workshop presented by Elaine Simons, founder of EJS Marketing Services, who will share insight on her expertise in this space and some key top tips on strengthening networking skills, including elevator pitching.

Launch is our purpose-built incubation space, created to provide students and graduates with valuable skills to help grow and develop start-up businesses. Launch provides the physical space for budding entrepreneurs to share ideas with their likeminded peers, organise meetings and seek crucial support from industry experts – taking on new cohorts twice each academic year, for students on all courses across the University.

This event is an ideal opportunity for colleagues, students and Launch alumni to develop their skills, expand their networks and to find out more about Launch, including the support available for entrepreneurs here at the University to get their businesses off the ground. Since its inception in 2018, the Launch team has engaged with over 1,400 students and graduates, and has provided in depth support to over 200 students to help them start a business. Over £290,000 total funding has also been awarded, which has been sponsored through the Government’s Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) grants and Santander Universities.

When it comes to starting your own business and succeeding in the world of work, networking can be instrumental to overall success. In fact, according to Statista, most employees believe networking is critical for increasing opportunities, while data has highlighted that networking can produce higher quality job offers and is directly linked to career success. In addition, further data has also confirmed that 95% of professionals say face-to-face connections are key for successful long-term business relationships, making it an essential tool that can directly contribute to our students’ success if mastered correctly.
