The Global Entrepreneurship Week Sudan 2022 took place in Khartoum with a digital streaming to reach individuals from across Sudan, under the statement “Living Dreams” turning this gathering program into a tradition for youth, policy makers, startups and other stakeholders under the themes:

Wednesday, November 16th:

“Opening ceremony”
Presidential Hall – Friendship Hall
6:00 p.m.

The ceremony started by the host greeting and interacting with audience about GEW, business ecosystem in Sudan and future opportunities. Followed by a speech by GEW2022 Program manager “Zulfa Malik” welcoming everyone to the event and talking more about IEC and its activities, next, a promo started rolling highlighting GEW Sudan journey since 2014.                                                              

Keynote speeches by the sponsors DAL Food gave about youth and opportunities and 249startups, moreover, a panel titled “Future of Entrepreneurship in Sudan” was held highlighted the challenges of the Sudanese business and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Sudan and what are the opportunities for youth and future markets for startups and small business owners

Finally a performance was conducted by young guitar players as a closing for the day alongside the networking.

Friday, November 18st:

“Exhibition Opening/Discussion Panels”

The first day started with the opening of the exhibition for startups and SMEs alongside the sponsors as the exhibition area had more than 20 startups presenting their businesses folloed by the starting of the panels:

  1. Food security Panel featuring the panelists

Food Security panel identified what does food security means and why food security is an important global topic and food security in Sudan context

  1. Investment and Technology in agro-business

The panel highlighted the technology and online business models, data in agro-business, Agro-business financing model in Sudan and improving agro business ecosystem in Sudan

  1. Creative Economy:

This panel discussed the definition of creative economy and consumption of goods and services that are created using creativity, skill, and talent in a wide range of industries, such as arts and culture, design, media, and technology and how to recognize the potential of the creative economy and taken steps to support this industry on a local level

  1. Boosting  co-creation models

This panel discussed the potential working models that can be used in cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large private sector companies which can help the SME access resources and expertise that it might not have on its own. they work together to develop and market new products or services taking the example of success of United Capital Bank and Syber

  1. Young private sector:

Young private sector panel highlighted the best practices in order to make your customers more aware of the product or services provided, various working models and how to be more adaptive to market change, moreover, the panel discussed lack of data to read labor market, global competition and recommendations to change the policies in Sudan that affects the growth of entrepreneurship ecosystem

  1. Visual & audible arts:

Visual & audible arts panel discussed the visual and audible arts in Sudan and the production of creativity for each, also how do we turn art into business and what it takes to sustain this business in light of the fluctuations in the local market and the challenges of these creative industries job market

  1. 249Startups (SMEs Demo):

At 249Startups SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) Demo Day Sanad Program Businesses had the opportunity to showcase their products or services to potential investors, customers and partners and gained the exposure, funding, and other support that can help them grow and succeed.

Saturday, November 19th:

“Discussion Panels/Closing Ceremony”

  1. Banking and capital markets featuring the panelists:  

The panel highlighted the banking sector in Sudan, financial instruments provided by this sector and opportunities for SMEs and startups to use these investments, also shedding the light on fin-tech intermediate startups

  1. Investing for the next decade:

The panel spotted the light on building successful models and investment sectors within the next decade, the understanding of what investors are looking for in the startups and the difference in investment and scalability of startups and SMEs

  1. Emerging investment opportunities:

This panel main pillars was venture capital, what makes a startup ready for an investment round also how to attract investment opportunities and how to sustain these opportunities from an investor perspective and business owner perspective

  1. Opportunities for SMEs within development sector:

Opportunities for SMEs within the development sector panel talked about how to start a start-up or SME and what are the opportunities and gaps between actors in the field development sector in the existing business and entrepreneurship ecosystem of Sudan from different aspects and finance and microfinance models provided by the development sector to SMEs.

  1. Technology, AI and Robotics:

Technology, AI and Robotics panel talked about two parts, the first one is the evolution of AI, applications of AI, use cases for AI applications applied to different sectors in Sudan and the second part highlighted the evolution of robotics and applications of in different industries in Sudan (i.e. Agriculture, Manufacturing, Medical,.... etc)

GEW Sudan 2022 Closing Ceremony started with a recap of the week by the closing host “Fadia Idrees, IEC Programs Associate” followed by keynote speech by part of GEW 2022 sponsors as Tirhal, then a speech by “Nazim Siraj, IEC Cariman”. All this was followed by a motivational keynote speech by “Dr. Khalid Altijani, Eilaf economic e-newspaper“ 

After that the celebration completed by a local musician who entertained the audience for an hour and followed by networking.
