Houssem Aoudi to guide GEN Tunisia to strengthen international connections and implement new programs, initiatives
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Global Entrepreneurship Network has appointed Houssem Aoudi as managing director of GEN Tunisia. In this role, Aoudi is responsible for expanding collaboration among the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem leaders and connecting them to their counterparts in more than 170 countries.
Aoudi said GEN Tunisia is working to build a prospering Tunisia where people of all ages are empowered to build their dreams and participate to the fullest within the global network.
"I have personally witnessed how coworking spaces such as Cogite have demonstrated that building a collaborative community of entrepreneurs results in benefits that reach far beyond that particular community,” said Aoudi. “Still, too much activity in Tunisia’s entrepreneurship ecosystem happens in silos, whereas shared learning and aligned initiatives could go a long way in catalyzing more widespread productivity, innovation, and economic growth. In my role as MD, I aim to support this movement by breaking down barriers to entry and developing more programs that help crucial ideas and projects scale."
He said that in Tunisia’s ongoing political transition, entrepreneurship has emerged as a positive force for change. At this inflection point for the country, Aoudi said it is essential to amplify the positive impact of entrepreneurship, particularly with respect to sustainable job creation and social inclusion.
At the global level, GEN operates in more than 170 countries. It fuels healthier start and scale ecosystems by fostering deeper cross-border collaboration and initiatives that engage entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers and entrepreneurship support organizations.
GEN Tunisia aims to strengthen the ecosystem by focusing on:
- Increasing the number and diversity of Tunisians who start new growth-oriented firms or work for startups;
- Supporting an entrepreneurship-friendly regulatory regime by translating cutting-edge research into productive policy change;
- Connecting broad-based coalitions of public and private sector leaders in Tunisia with international counterparts to create new avenues for innovative collaboration.
Alongside his role as GEN Tunisia’s acting managing director, Aoudi is also an entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience in media, civic engagement and social innovation. He is also the co-founder of Cogite Coworking Space, Tunisia's first coworking community.
