Collaborative Efforts Bring Relief to Those Affected by Eastern Turkey Earthquake

A devastating earthquake struck eastern Turkey on February 06, 2023, leaving many people in need of urgent assistance. In response, the Habitat Association, in collaboration with GEN Turkey has stepped up its efforts to help those affected by the disaster.

Thanks to the aid of private sector stakeholders, the organizations have been able to provide much-needed relief to the region. In total, 63,128 pieces of aid materials, including food, blankets, heaters, clothes, socks, coats, children's boots, hygienic materials, electrical-electronic materials, power banks, canned food, tents, floor mats, toys, and paint books, were gathered for distribution to earthquake victims. In addition, 8 tons of firewood were also collected.

On February 9, 2023, 5,852 of these materials were shipped to Adıyaman, and on February 14, 2023, 55,438 aid materials, including 8 tons of firewood, were shipped to Malatya using two separate vehicles, one of which was a truck. Additionally, 2 construction machines were directed to the area to help with debris removal.

In total, 118,566 pieces of aid material were brought to those in need through local stakeholder institutions and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

The Habitat Association, in collaboration with GEN Turkey, is actively working on the classification, loading, and organization of aid materials with 45 professional employees in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Aydın, and more than 500 active volunteers in the region. The organizations also facilitate the delivery of aid materials to earthquake victims through their volunteers and local stakeholders in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake.

The collaborative efforts of the Habitat Association and GEN Turkey are providing important support to those affected by the earthquake in Eastern Turkey. With the ongoing support of private sector stakeholders and dedicated volunteers, the organizations are able to continue their vital work of providing essential aid and support to those in need.
