Technology has the potential to transcend all boundaries and connect young people across the world through creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, but most importantly, equip the next generation with the tools they need to solve the problems of tomorrow.

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, our friends at Acorn Aspirations are hosting a Virtual reality hackathon – using the latest technology to bring together teens and technology for a two-day extravaganza of problem-solving and inspiration. While most people will be winding down their GEW experience this huge event will be kicking off, taking over an impressive central London location for two full days of hands of entrepreneurship.

These fantastic Acorn events are a regular feature of Global Entrepreneurship Week, but this year, for the first time, the GEW Acorn Hack has an international element, bringing together partner organisations in the US, Afghanistan and Chile in a live collaboration with mentors from universities and local tech communities.

Hackathon participants will have a unique opportunity to develop Virtual Reality apps and experiences with the potential to help address social problems in their local communities and worldwide.

Check out what the team got up to last year:

GEW is an international campaign, taking place simultaneously in more than 175 nations and some of the most exciting events running during GEWUK use the increasing sophistication of the global entrepreneurship ecosystem and the GEN network to connect people to new global experiences, driven by tech that was unheard of when we hosted the first GEW – ten years ago.

The AcornHack is a great example of this trend and we’re proud to feature the Acorn Hack as a headline Compass Point event of GEWUK2017, and to help connect Code To Inspire (Herat, Afghanistan), Choose2Matter (Denver, Colorado) Tyler Web Dev (Texas, USA) and Coding-U (Concepcion, Chile) to the wider GEWUK community.

We can’t wait to see how this globally connected VR hack plays out.
