24 international finalists have made it through to the grand final of “Your Big Year” which takes place in Liverpool. The announcement was recently made on Liverpool Day at the Shanghai Expo. Your Big Year is a unique free competition designed to encourage global citizenship and social responsibility, through enterprise, with 24 charities benefitting from funds raised. 44,489 registrations from168 different countries were received and finalists include contestants from India, Romania, Poland, Hungary, UK, Malaysia, China, Canada, Russia, Italy, Morocco, USA, Hong Kong and Australia.
The finalists will arrive in Liverpool on November 13th and take part in a week of final challenges during Global Entrepreneurship Week (Nov 15-21st). The two winners will be announced on the 19th November 2010.
The prize for two winners is truly motivational and life changing as they will travel around the world, all expenses paid, starting in January 2011. They will meet World Leaders, innovators and inspirational entrepreneurs. During their adventure they will live in different communities, learn leadership skills and join volunteer projects – from teaching children in South America to conservation work in Asia. They will be given the tools and support to share their experiences via the global media.
The competition ran from July 2010 – October 10th and contestants entered by registering on-line and participating in various challenges. There were many reasons for people to enter this self development focused competition.
Chris Arnold CEO of Liverpool based Smaller Earth said “even those who do not actually win the big prize will be building business skills and worldwide networks of other entrepreneurial people. The possibilities for where that could lead are endless. To me, as an entrepreneur, that is more exciting than the prize itself. We will also be putting the City in the Global spotlight by bringing these enterprising individuals to Liverpool and showing them how wonderful it is”.
