International startup battle phenomenon comes to the United Kingdom to close off GEW

Entrepreneurs know that pitching to investors can be a bit like going 12 rounds with a prize fighter. All of the most successful entrepreneurs have had a few bruising encounters with the money men, but until now few, if any, UK entrepreneurs have ever actually had to step into a boxing ring!  That is all set to change with the arrival of international pitching competition Get in the Ring (GITR) in the UK.

Get In The Ring is a new type of investment battle that is light on long PowerPoint presentations and heavy on action and entertainment!

We’re excited to be working with the hosts and the team behind the global Get in the Ring movement to finally bring the competition to the UK and we are delighted to announce that the UK final will act as the official closing party of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2015.

So how does it work? The ultimate aim is to bring together successful, high potential startups and connect them to experienced investors and entrepreneurs to help them grow. Along the way the audience get to see startups go head to head and learn a lot about what makes our startups tick. On top of all that the audience get to see first-hand the skills needed to deliver a killer pitch. Can you afford to miss it?

For our national UK final on the 20th of November six startups will compete in three battles. Just like real boxing they will be divided in three weight classes, based on their growth stage and market valuation, before they will face off against each other in the ring. During five rounds the finalists will present their startup to a jury of Champion investors, and an audience of partners, clients, users, fans, and potential investors. Based on their pitch the judges score startups on their team, achievements, business model & market and their financials.

The winners take home some fantastic prizes and the chance to go forward to compete in the European Finals and ultimately the Global Final in Colombia. Not to mention connections to and investment from leading startup investors from the London scene.

Already announced for the UK final are startups ChoosicThe Selfcare People, and Zipcube. You’ll have to wait until the day of the fight to see who they will be squaring off against!

We’re really excited to have the National Final of GITR taking place on the evening of the Friday the 20th as the official closing party of GEW.

If you are interested in startups and are looking to let your hair down after a long week of entrepreneurship networking then the GITR closing party is the place to be. You can find more about the campaign on twitter.
