Social Belly will change the way you eat out, or in, as the case may be. The United Kingdom based startup aims to bring people together by bringing them to the dinner table.
A finalist in the 2014 Startup Open competition, Social Belly is a service that allows its users to attend dinner parties in their area. Diners can choose between parties held in private homes and restaurants in secluded dining spaces. Through their service, Social Belly’s main goal is to connect individuals to one another and form stronger communities around mutual interests. The service takes a users’ list of interests to generate dining suggestions. Social Belly hopes for its users to bring all of what they have to the table, especially when it comes to making new friends.
The idea for Social Belly was a result of its founder, Dimple Lalwani’s passion for both cooking and hospitality. While writing her business plan, Lalwani started hosting dinner parties in her home as a side hobby. Her dinner guests were assigned one simple rule: to bring someone that no one knew or had ever met before. Lalwani watched as her guests participated in interesting conversations and enjoyed each other’s company. Their enthusiasm for the events reinforced Lalwani’s vision for a social startup. Through her dinner parties, she saw the possibilities for a unique, service that she could share with the world.
Social Belly hopes to become the premiere platform in the United Kingdom for both visitors and residents looking for a unique dining experience. Its unique set up encourages its users to have agency over where, when, and with whom they dine to enhance the experience. Social Belly is a startup that serves to enrich the individual’s entire life by offering a chance to fill the body, mind, and soul.
