Akilah Darden

Akilah Darden is not just building buildings—she’s building legacies. As the powerhouse founder and president of The Darden Group, LLC, an award-winning award-winning, expansion-stage construction management, consulting, and training firm, Akilah is transforming the way the industry thinks about construction, procurement, innovation, and community wealth creation. She is a master in incorporating people and community into everything she does.

With more than $2 billion in construction projects successfully led under her command—including skyscrapers, K-12 buildings, aviation, and hospitals—Akilah Darden is a nationally recognized construction executive who delivers results and drives impact. She is one of the few African American women in the country to lead such large-scale commercial projects—and she’s leveraging that position to open doors for others. Most recently, shes playing a pivotal role in leading the strategy, implementation, and execution leading to nearly $400 million in spend with diverse contractors on a $4.2 billion hospital campus—the largest hospital project in the nation. Along with the vast amount of diverse spend, she also leads the efforts for equitable opportunities for the construction workforce with 30% of the tradespersons on site being diverse and 8% women.

At the core of her work is one simple belief: "What they see is what they will be." That mantra drives her passion for visibility, representation, and legacy-building, especially for women and minorities in construction. From boardrooms to building sites, Akilah leads with boldness, excellence, and a vision for equity. Through The Darden Group, LLC, she partners with corporations and developers to design intentional strategies that don’t just check the box—they raise the bar.

The Darden Group, LLC provides:
- Customized construction management training, including her award-winning Construction Management Masterclass used by cities, universities, and Fortune 500s
- Executive-level consulting on procurement, supplier diversity integration and compliance
- Community engagement and workforce development strategies that foster trust and build a ready pipeline of skilled, diverse talent,
- Real-time, measurable impact for projects seeking to exceed procurement, workforce, and operational goals.

As an expansion-stage firm, The Darden Group is rapidly scaling its impact by aligning with corporate partners who want more than compliance—they want purpose-driven performance and transformational outcomes. Akilah helps organizations unlock markets, mitigate risk, and generate long-term social return on investment.

She’s not just helping corporations meet mandates—she’s helping them unlock markets, mitigate risk, and achieve social return on investment at scale. Akilah is a master at convening unlikely partners, transforming procurement strategy into legacy-building opportunity, and coaching construction professionals to become business owners, not just workers.

Her work has received accolades from organizations like the Indianapolis Business Journal, National Association of Women in Construction, WBENC, NMSDC, and other national business journals. Her children’s book, My Mom is a Construction Manager, co-authored with her four children, has earned national and international recognition, inspiring youth across more than 10 school districts and thousands of families.

But Akilah is more than an award-winning builder—she’s a visionary entrepreneur, a systems thinker, a speaker, a wife and mother of four, and a relentless advocate for change. Her story—from building billion-dollar structures in Washington, D.C., to creating a social enterprise in Indianapolis that trains and uplifts Black and brown contractors—is proof that possibility is the blueprint, and impact is the foundation.

Corporations and developers partner with Akilah Darden when they want to:
- Exceed diverse spend goals with high-quality performance outcomes,
- Build trust and credibility with communities,
- Create generational economic opportunities,
- Deliver infrastructure projects with purpose and precision.

Akilah Darden is building more than buildings—she’s building movements. She "builds visions and exceeds expectations".
