Alesimo Mwanga

In 2017, Alesimo was the youngest contributor to co-author the South African Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2016/2017 report alongside industry experts Professor Mike Herrington and Penny Kew. GEM is a trusted resource on entrepreneurship for key international organisations like the United Nations, World Economic Forum, World Bank, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), providing custom datasets, special reports and expert opinion.

She has presented at various global and local conferences and recently had participated and presented at the OECD 8th Plenary, Paris Meeting for Policy Dialogue on Global Value Chains (GVC), Production Transformation and Development, Paris – OECD Headquarters. Reporting on conclusions identified from the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2017 and developing a presentation for discussion on the following in Africa: Drivers of production transformation, participation and upgrading in GVCs – Can start-ups be drivers of transformation in emerging economies?

She was part of the local content committee for the Global Entrepreneurship Congress hosted for the first time in Africa. Through her participation, she lead a pilot research study commissioned by SEA Africa and GEN South Africa to showcase “The economic and social impact of entrepreneurs migrating from Africa”. Findings for this study were presented and discussed among a panelist at the GEC hosted in Johannesburg.
