Amali Hettige

Amali Hettige is the Manager/Consultant at the University Business Linkage Cell (UBLC), the technology transfer unit of the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, one of the country’s leading universities. With over four years of specialized experience in intellectual property management, licensing, negotiation, and technology transfer, Amali plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic research and industry.
In addition to her expertise in IP, Amali brings over nine years of experience in treatment plant operations, quality assurance, and sustainability management. She previously managed the quality assurance team at a reputable private company and led several sustainability-focused projects. Amali is a certified lead auditor for ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015 standards and serves as an internal auditor for the ISO 17025 standard.
Amali is also a dedicated educator, contributing to IP educational sessions as a resource person and lecturing on Intellectual Property and IP Management in university modules and short courses. Her commitment to IP education extends from the elementary school level to university students.
Amali holds a B.Sc. (Special) in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Peradeniya and a Master’s in Natural Resources Management. She has completed extensive IP-related training, including prior art searches, patent drafting, and IP management. Her credentials include a WIPO Professional Development Certification in Management and Commercialization of IP Assets, an IP study course at the Osaka Institute of Technology in Japan, and participation in the Fulbright Program on IP and patenting in the USA.
