Ahmed Shalaby

Ahmed Mohamed Shalaby is a Professor of Architecture and Urban Development at the Department of Architectural Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt. Shalaby was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of City and Regional Planning, Cornell University, NY, USA from 2004 to 2006.  On June 2003, he received his Ph.D. degree in a joint supervision program between Cairo University and Cornell University. Besides teaching, Shalaby started his professional practice directly after his graduation in 1993 by participating in designing and developing several projects at different architecture consultant offices in Cairo.  In 1997, he participated with other colleagues in establishing Dar Lotus for Engineering and Project Control.  Through this company, He participated in designing and developing several projects including Hotels and Resorts, Cultural and Religious Buildings, Offices and Retail Complexes, Residential Buildings and Compounds, and Transportation Buildings. Shalaby is also a consultant for several organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the General Organization of Physical Planning (GOPP) at the Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure, and Urban Development of the Egyptian Government. In addition, He is currently a Habitat Universities Affiliate serving as a Committee Member of the Informal Urbanism Hub that is part of the UN-Habitat Partner University Initiative HPUI.  Between 2006 and 2012, he managed the real estate development operations of a private company in Egypt. The developments of the company are diversified from large-scale residential developments to integrated touristic developments. From January 2013 - 2014, Shalaby worked as a Technical Advisor to the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities of the Egyptian Government. Besides teaching at Cairo University, Shalaby is currently the Managing Director of Tatweer Misr; that is a newly established Egyptian Real Estate Development Shareholding company.
