Anthony Smare

GEN's National Ambassador for Papua New Guinea is an investor, entrepreneur, lawyer, geologist, social entrepreneur and ecosystem builder. Anthony is passionate about the role that entrepreneurship and innovation in developing countries can empower local changemakers to catalyze and accelerate inclusive development in their countries.

Anthony chairs Papua New Guinea’s largest superannuation fund, Nambawan Super (~US$3B), and Paradise Foods Ltd, a food conglomerate. He founded the leadership non-profit, the Kumul Foundation, in 1999 and in 2014 founded the Pacific island’s region entrepreneurship and incubator programme Kumul GameChangers identifying, training and accelerating entrepreneurs and startups from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands and other countries in the region.

Through the Kumul Foundation Inc, Anthony has initiated other programmes including school-based micro-entrepreneurship programme ASPIRE in 2017 and also set up in 2018 the PNG Startup Hub, Papua New Guinea’s first co-working space providing free work space, internet, and access to tax, legal, finance and business advice to young innovative startup entrepreneurs. Anthony was named in 2014 by the World Economic Forum to its Forum of Young Global Leaders. Attained degrees in Law and Geology from Queensland University of Technology, and in 2010 was named the University’s outstanding young alumnus.
