Benjamin Kwadwo Appiah

Benjamin Kwadwo Appiah has 11 years of experience in the Non-Profit Sector. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Freeworld International, a Non-Profit Organisation based in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Until April 2017 when he became a full-time Executive Director at Freeworld, Benjamin was working in other International Non-Profit Organisations to learn the best practices and improve his capacity to effectively lead the growth and development of Freeworld International. During this learning journey (starting from 2012), he has made impactful contributions in the success of many development interventions in Ghana in the areas of Education, Health, Waste Management, Local Economic Development, Youth and Empowerment. Key ones among them include Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai District Development Project (funded by DFATD and Rio Tinto Alcan), National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan Project (funded by Ghana AIDS Commission), Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training Programme (funded by DFID, Comic Relief , Tullow Oil and Vitol Foundation), Enhancing the Capacity of Local Authorities to mobilise Revenue (Funded by EU), and Family Strengthening Project (Funded by SOS CV Netherlands). Benjamin also has remarkable experience in working on waste management in Ghana. He was instrumental in the set up The Rockstar Waste Services (A start up waste management company that specialises in waste segregation) in 2018 and now the Co-Founder and Executive Director of BENNAJ Enterprise, a startup company that specialises in providing healthy meals while addressing food waste challenge for sustainable agriculture through waste separation.
Benjamin holds a bachelor’s degree in management and a masters degree in NGO studies and Management from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Also, he holds a certificate in Advance Project Monitoring and Evaluation from GIMPA and a certificate in data quality and M&E fundamentals.
Benjamin has extensive community mobilization and facilitation skills. He led in the review of Community Action Plans (CAPs) in 12 communities in BAB Municipal in the Western Region of Ghana and supported them to achieve most of the new targets on the plan in 2013 under the World University Service of Canada's BAB Municipal Development Project. Furthermore, he led in the mobilization 150 palm oil processors (90% females) in the Eastern Region of Ghana and assisted them to form a savings group that enabled them to secure a loan from a microfinance firm to expand their businesses in 2018.
