Bertha Chiudza

Bertha is a multi-skilled transformational leader with strong expertise in environmental and social safeguards, inclusive climate action, sustainability and gender/social inclusion. She has 17 years working full-time in Malawi, Denmark, and South Korea. In her line of work, she has supported various development/humanitarian projects, programs and investments in Africa, Middle East, Central and East Asia, Small Island Developing States (Caribbean and Pacific Regions) and Latin America.

Bertha has worked with diverse organizations and is currently working with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) at its headquarters in South Korea as the Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist. Before joining GCF, she worked with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) also at its HQ in Seoul, Korea as the Senior Specialist for Gender and Social Development. Another HQ office that she has worked with is the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Copenhagen as the Gender Mainstreaming Coordinator. In addition to these, she has also worked with various UN/International and local organizations in Malawi including Oxfam International as Women’s Rights Thematic Lead and also Co-Chair of the Oxfam Global women’s leadership working group; United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Program Professional; UN World Food Program (WFP) as the Gender Advisor; Plan International as National Coordinator for Child Protection and Participation; and Malawi’s local human/women's rights organizations.
She is a passionate social and green entrepreneur who aspires to bring prosperity and self-reliance to marginalized and underserved communities. She holds an MA in Sustainable Humanitarian Action (2022–2023) from DIHAD Humanitarian College in affiliation with UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain; MA in Education, Gender and International Development (2010-2011) from University College of London (UCL), Institute of Education (IOE), London, England; and a BA in Education and Biblical Studies (2003-2007) from the African Bible College, Malawi. Currently, Bertha is pursing an Executive MBA with Quantic School of Business and Technology.

She is a multiple global and regional award winner, including Exemplary Woman Leader of the Year, 2025, London; and 2024 Global 200 Women Power Leader, Dubai, both conferred by White Page International in 2024. She is also the 2024 Southern African Change Catalysts Award (SACCA) recognized by Walking the African Journey, Johannesburg, South Africa; 2023 DIHAD Glasshouse (a global sustainable start-up program) top 5 finalist and winner, Dubai, UAE; and (iv) 2019 and 2020 - Pan Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government by the CEO Global and Titans: Building Nations (Lusaka, Zambia, and Johannesburg, South Africa); and other recognition and awards that dates back to 2004.

In 2024, Bertha established a green and social enterprise in Malawi named Tsinde Eco Empower. The enterprise recently started its operations, and it is pioneering the circular ecosystem in the capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe. The initiative is directly targeting marginalized people and communities in the informal waste sector in Malawi – addressing the critical issues of waste management in the capital city; aim at creating a green innovation hub especially for youth and women where they will co-create and come up with green solutions from waste. From a governance perspective, Tsinde Eco Empower is fully incorporated in Malawi as a private limited company and has a functional board. So far, 4 young people (2 women and 2 men) have been recruited and are leading in the kick-start of Tsinde operations and cementing its sustainable business plan.

In 2022, Bertha Co-founded a sustainable enterprise in Mzuzu, Malawi called Mizu Garden and Events Center. In return, this enterprise is creating green jobs especially for youth and women and making sustainable events management a reality while greening the city. Mizu Garden and Events Centre has so far recruited 15 people, mostly youth and women who are directly supporting the business on both full time and part time basis. This business has served different clients in Malawi including the highest office, the Office of the President and Cabinet.
