Caribe Coffee Company is an importer of specialty grade and micro lot green coffee beans. We source directly from family farms and their cooperatives and we are passionate about ensuring the farms are treated fairly and they themselves work in a sustainable and ethical manner.
Wilmer, the company’s co-founder and CEO is from Honduras and knows of the difficulties many people can face there. He is incredibly focused on showcasing the exemplary calibre of beans this country has to offer and in doing so improving export and the economy.
The company started in 2018 after Elle and Wil, Husband and wife team, moved back to Elle’s home county, Northumberland. They had had a difficult year after receiving the news their son had been born with a rare genetic condition and moved to be near Elle’s family. Wil’s entrepreneurial spirit, love of coffee and ties to coffee farming paired with Elle’s MBA and love of business led them to the start up.
Wilmer travelled back to Honduras to meet with several cooperatives, as a small unknown start up, many larger companies were not interested but he found a small, family orientated cooperative that was the right fit ad met the standards set by the company. There is so much to consider! The living and working standards of the farmers, the workers and all of their respective families. The farming techniques practiced; planting and harvesting, pulping and drying the beans. The environment, the weather, soil type and altitude that influences the flavours in your cup of coffee. They also consider the environmental projects the farmers are associated with, all of the farmer's use environmentally sensitive farming practices that allow native flora and fauna to cohabit the land.
The direct partnership with the Honduran coffee farm cooperatives allows Caribe’s customers access to the most competitive prices on the market for this calibre of coffee bean. Each harvest comes with a unique farm profile that provides your coffee bean's history, not only detailing the standards mentioned above, but also gives you the background and family life of the farmers and how they are benefitting from being part of an ethical cooperative business.
The coffee beans are within the top 16% grading in the world, some of the micro lots higher. The couple have developed unique roast profiles to ensure the flavours and body is perfect and hand roast to order to ensure a freshness and fantastic taste. The beans are sold retail and wholesale both in the UK and further afield.
