Denise Diaz

Elected citywide to serve on the South Gate City Council in 2017, Denise enhanced her community by focusing on job creation, economic development, and environmental equity.

Having been born, raised, and educated in the City of South Gate, Denise is a proud product of South East Los Angeles’ vibrant neighborhoods. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from California State University, Long Beach and master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University Northridge.

As a Councilwoman, Denise helped South Gate build an impressive municipal reserve fund and position the city as the business-friendly gem. She has also spearheaded numerous youth employment programs to train the future workforce of her community and has been a vocal advocate for gender equity and sustainable communities.

Denise currently sits on the board of Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Women’s Commission advocating for policies focused on women and children in Los Angeles county.

Denise is currently the Senior Director of Public Affairs of all seven campuses for The Chicago School, a nonprofit, private university devoted to creating a pipeline of culturally competent professionals who can fundamentally improve the health and well-being of a generation of diverse communities.
