Derek Tang

Derek is a Senior Manager in the Department of Communications and Outreach at the Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates (EFG), where he also oversees international affairs. As the Program Lead for the Global Entrepreneurship Week Campus Center (GCC) in China, he is dedicated to outreach and advocacy communications for entrepreneurship, connecting with stakeholders across sectors to build an entrepreneurial ecosystem network that radiates from Shanghai to the rest of China and beyond. At the same time, he works to deepen the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem on college campuses and to unleash the entrepreneurial potential of young students.

Founded in August 2006 and initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Government, the Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates (EFG) is a public welfare organization in China dedicated to spreading entrepreneurial culture and supporting entrepreneurial practice. Its mission is to “foster an entrepreneurial environment, sow the seeds of entrepreneurship, and ignite entrepreneurial vitality.” Guided by the principles of “encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship while improving the innovation environment; promoting the translation of research outcomes into practice and advancing educational reform; and stimulating innovative potential to cultivate talent,” the Foundation works with all sectors of society to deliver entrepreneurship advocacy, education, and funding support. To date, it has established partnerships with 26 universities and administrative districts—including Fudan, Shanghai Jiao Tong, and Tongji—forming a comprehensive network that supports entrepreneurial practice, nurtures entrepreneurial talent, and spreads entrepreneurial culture. By the end of March 2026, the Foundation’s “Angel Fund” had received 17,261 applications, funded 4,855 projects, and disbursed RMB 1.25 billion in total funding. Among its portfolio are influential ventures such as Ele.me, Titan Tech, miHoYo, and Aihuishou.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week Campus Center (GCC) is a youth organization initiated and operated by EFG in 2010. It has become one of the most influential brands of Global Entrepreneurship Week China. Comprising entrepreneurship‐oriented student clubs, associations, and societies on college campuses, GCC aims to build a platform for university students with entrepreneurial aspirations to share ideas and connect with one another. Its guiding mission is to “let good seeds of entrepreneurship find good soil.” Through events such as the GCC Summit, Entrepreneurship Classrooms, and various entrepreneurship activities, the organization helps students develop a sound entrepreneurial mindset and take their first steps toward becoming socially responsible entrepreneurs. GCC is open not only to domestic college students but also actively welcomes overseas Chinese students and international students studying in China.

At EFG, Derek plays a pivotal bridging role—he represents the Foundation in building extensive partnerships with domestic and international collaborators, promoting entrepreneurial culture, and facilitating global exchanges. At the same time, as the lead operator of GCC, he organizes nationwide campus entrepreneurship programs and nurtures a network of student entrepreneurship clubs, channeling resources directly to the student community and continually inspiring the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of the younger generation. Under Derek’s leadership and together with his team, EFG and GCC are steadily expanding their influence both nationally and globally, empowering more young entrepreneurs to shine on the innovation and entrepreneurship stage.
