Scalamandre is a $15 million a year, high-end, textile provider of woven and printed products including passementerie and historic in-grain carpets • Wrote sales manual for the Restoration Division and tracked sales that averaged $1 million annually • Led design team and mill personnel to produce custom products for historic sites that included The White House, US Department of Treasury (Andrew Johnson Suite), “cottages” such as The Breakers owned and managed by the Preservation Society of Newport County, Newport RI and The Octagon House--the historic home of the American Institute of Architects • Lectured on historic restoration at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, New York University • Appointed Director of Public Relations in addition to Vice President responsibilities. Wrote and placed promotional materials on new products, wrote articles on restoration and created advertising campaigns that appeared in publications such as Architectural Digest. • Classified three levels of reproduction that met the financial requirements and level of authenticity for historic sites • Published five articles on historic preservation, research and mill operation 1985-1990 Director, The Design Center, Philadelphia University, Philadelphia PA • Increased the historic textile collection by more than 400 items dating from approximately the 4th century CE • Coordinated the research and analysis of 80 Copic fragments in the collection in consultation with the Egyptology Department, University of Pennsylvania • Prepared grants that included a $99,500 computer cataloguing grant from the William Penn Foundation in support of the architecture, fashion design and textile curriculum and a $10,000 grant from the Kress Foundation to establish a conservation laboratory in consultation with the Winterthur Museum, Wilmington DE • Initiated three major exhibitions and accompanying gala events that raised approximately $8,000-10,000 per show • Increased visibility of the center through publications such as Museum News (the journal of the American Association of Museums), The New York Times and Philadelphia Inquirer • Developed design industry membership program using C-D ROM technology so designers could access the study collection for design inspiration.
