Gorata Mubu began her interest in fashion through beauty pageant at an early age
of 9years when she won her first pageant at primary school. She continued to win
all pageants she joined until she last won Miss University of Botswana 06/07. She
continued with the Miss UB as a choreographer and event manager till 2010. In
addition she also became choreographer and Head judge for Miss Intervarsity
(BOLESWA). Since then she started to grow in choreographing and managing
different pageants.
While growing she would design her own pageant gowns and bridesmaids dresses,
and studied fashion design at junior high and senior school respectively, so her
interest in fashion grew even bigger. Even though she went to do bachelor of
Accountancy at University of Botswana she continued with her passion and love
for fashion. In 2011she began to pursue it in creating connections and relationships
around the world. And that saw her being invited to different events around Africa
and the international world. With the desire to promote and develop her country’s
fashion industry she decided to promote Botswana designers in countries and
events she got invited to, which made her an International fashion promoter. That
exposure saw her being contacted by Vogue Italia, Kutlwano Magazines and other
fashion houses and event owners around the world. In addition to that it saw her
creating a relationship with Africa’s biggest fashion house Africa Fashion
International owned by her role model Dr Precious Motsepe. She was later able to
take Botswana designer to showcase at their biggest show Mercedes-Benz Africa
fashion week in Johannesburg.
Since joining the international fashion world and working hard to promote her
country’s fashion industry as well, this saw her being invited by the department
of Arts and culture to be part of the team to help in producing handling the
fashion category for the Presidential awards. She was later chosen to be the
chairperson /leader of the team. And due to her hard work she was then chosen to
be a member of the National Organizing committee at the Ministry of Youth,
Sports and Culture. Moreover, this saw her become the Vice-Chairperson of the
Botswana Fashion Design Association. Being the youngest of the fashion team, of
the National organizing committee and of the Botswana fashion design association
made her drive to achieve and be successful and hit beyond the sky. Gorata believes in working hard and most importantly working really smart and
never ever giving up. And that believe is now seeing her grow bigger each day in
her work, business and passion for fashion, events, marketing and PR.
