Humberto Mercader

Humberto Mercader Pérez is Puerto Rico’s Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DEDC) Deputy Secretary. Previously, he was a deputy secretary of Strategic Initiatives, while in this position he created and led initiatives tied to Puerto Rico’s competitiveness as a place to do business, such as improving access to digital talent, improving logistics and air cargo connectivity, and increasing Puerto Rico’s research and development output.

Prior to his arrival to the DEDC, Mercader worked two years at Red Ventures, an international digital marketing and technology company, focused on connecting consumers to brands. While in Red Ventures, Humberto led efforts to expose young students to the professional world, specifically in digital marketing and technology. Before Red Ventures, Humberto worked in V2A Consulting, a management consulting firm based in Puerto Rico, during which he had experiences on the telecom, banking, healthcare, and government industries.

Humberto Mercader holds a bachelor’s degree in Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, where he also co-led, while being a student, HackPR, a non-profit that organized the biggest student hackathons of the Caribbean.
