Charles Immanuel Akhimien

Dr Charles Immanuel Akhimien is the co-founder of MOBicure, a social enterprise providing mobile technology solutions in healthcare for Nigeria and other developing nations. MOBicure’s flagship product, the multi-award winning OMOMI mobile platform has reached over 17,000 women with life-saving maternal and child health information. OMOMI (meaning 'my child') has already garnered a lot of international awards including: being selected as one of 18 winners in the World Summit Youth Award in Sao Paulo, Brazil in June 2015, as well as emerging as one of the winners of the inaugural Health Innovation Challenge Awards held in Lagos, Nigeria in October 2015. OMOMI also emerged as the Best Initiative in the 4th edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, and just recently it was one of 50 projects that won the U.S Afrrican Development Foundation's (USADF) Business Plan Competition for 2016.Charles is a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow, as well as one of the Highly-Commended Runners-up of the Queen’s Young Leader Award for 2016. In addition, he is an Alumnus of the Yunus & Youth Global Fellowship and the Global Startup Youth (GSY). He is also an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society and was just recently recognised as one of the Commonwealth Youth Awards finalists for 2017. In November 2014, he got an honourable mention in Healthcare for the OMOMI app in the Tech-I 2014 competition, organised by the U.S State Department and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Marrakech, Morocco.                An avid writer, Charles’ first love is writing, and in April 2013 he won the prestigious World Environment Day Blogging competition for 2013 organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and he subsequently represented UNEP in Mongolia as the official blogger for the for World Environment Day 2013. He bagged his medical degree from the School of Medicine of the University of Benin in June 2013.
