Deborah Idowu

A Life Defined by Vision, Resilience, and Impact

Idowu Deborah Love, fondly called Debbie Richflow, is a visionary entrepreneur, mentor, and social impact advocate whose story beautifully blends faith, determination, and excellence. With nearly two decades of experience in sales, marketing, and business leadership, she has risen from humble beginnings to become one of Abuja’s most inspiring food manufacturers. She is the Co-founder and Director of Operations and HR at Debrianc Ventures, producers of the popular Debrianc Plantain Chips.

Debbie’s life reflects how conviction, creativity, and compassion can transform not just one life but entire communities.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Debbie’s early years were marked by curiosity, leadership, and a desire to make a difference. She studied English at the University of Ibadan, where she honed her communication and critical thinking skills, tools that became vital in her entrepreneurial journey. Even as a student, she sold items and engaged in small-scale marketing, unknowingly laying the foundation for her business career.

After graduation, Debbie began working as a front desk officer, gaining discipline and structure from corporate life. Yet, her heart longed for more. On weekends, she produced and packaged plantain chips, selling them before and after work. What began as a side hustle became her training ground, teaching her branding, pricing, and customer relations. Through these early efforts, she discovered that her true purpose was in building businesses that meet needs and empower others. Entrepreneurship, she realized, wasn’t just something she did; it was who she was.

In 2015, Debbie and her husband, Idowu Folawewo, co-founded Debrianc Ventures with just ₦9,000 ($35), money gifted after their first child’s birth. They started by frying and packaging plantain chips in their kitchen, driven by a vision to create hygienic, tasty snacks Nigerians could trust. The early days were challenging, but Debbie’s resilience and marketing expertise fueled growth. Her consistency soon turned the home-based venture into a structured enterprise known for quality and integrity.

In 2019, Debrianc Ventures won the $5,000 Tony Elumelu Foundation grant, which accelerated production and improved packaging. By 2024, the company recorded an annual turnover of ₦101 million (about $70,000), serving over 700 customers, including 200 supermarkets and 500 families, with a growing export presence. The company now employs 12 people and has become a respected name in Nigeria’s snack industry.

Debbie’s embrace of technology also propelled her success. She built a strong digital presence, ranking on the first page of Google for “plantain chips in Abuja.” Through engaging storytelling and creative campaigns, she converted followers into buyers, achieving over 30% of total sales online.

At Debrianc Ventures, Debbie leads with discipline and empathy. She manages admin/HR, production, and marketing while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. Many of her staff are women, and she is passionate about empowering them to achieve personal and professional growth. Her company also sponsors the education of children from low-income families in Northern Nigeria, advancing her mission of building businesses that change lives.

In addition to her entrepreneurial role, Debbie volunteers with Metamorphosis Christian Center, where she trains and mentors internally displaced women. She helps them rebuild confidence, gain financial literacy, and learn practical business skills. For Debbie, this is deeply personal, she knows the struggle of starting small and believes that when one woman is lifted, families and communities rise with her.

Debbie’s commitment to lifelong learning has earned her several professional certifications, including Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) from Alison and completion of the MTN Foundation Yellopreneur Programme by Pan-Atlantic University’s Enterprise Development Centre. She is also a fellow at the 3MTT (Three Million Technical Talent) programme, studying Product Management to integrate technology into traditional food production.

Her vision extends beyond profit. Debbie dreams of making Debrianc Ventures Nigeria’s leading producer of plantain and potato chips by 2035, expanding into export markets, employing more women, and supporting more children’s education. She envisions a homegrown African brand recognized globally for excellence, integrity, and impact.

Behind the thriving business woman is a devoted wife and loving mother. Debbie has been married for over a decade to her husband and business partner, Folawewo, and together they are raising two children. She values family, faith, and intentional living, balancing her roles with grace and purpose.

From ₦9,000 to millions, from a kitchen dream to hundreds of stores, Debbie Richflow’s story is one of grace, grit, and growth , a reminder that greatness truly can grow from small beginning.
