Javier Hernández-Acosta

Javier J. Hernandez Acosta, PhD, MBA is Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Arts, Design and Creative Industries at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, and former Director of the Department of Business Administration. He is the founder of Inversión Cultural and Centro de Economía Creativa, non-profit organizations that promotes the development of cultural and creative industries in Puerto Rico.

He holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurial Development and Management from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and an MBA in International Business from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. He is a self-taught musician (percussionist) and has collaborated with artists such as Antonio Cabán Vale "El Topo", Roy Brown, Kany García, Tito Auger and Zoraida Santiago, among others.

For four years he was the Executive Director of Taller Cé, a co-operative of singer-songwriters in Puerto Rico. He was Cultural Advisor of the Commission for Cultural Development (CODECU) and a member of the Advisory Council for the Creative Industries in Puerto Rico (2014-2018). He is also the Principal Investigator at the LabCultural, the observatory of arts, culture, and creative economy in Puerto Rico. He has published in several books and academic journals on topics related to entrepreneurship, cultural policies, and arts management.

He is the author of the Profile of the Creative Economy in Puerto Rico and the books Creative Entrepreneurship and La Ruta Emprendedora. He has been principal investigator or co-investigator in projects such as Puerto Rico Innovation Survey (2015), the Science and Technology Survey in Puerto Rico: Research and Development (2014-2015) and the World Values Survey in Puerto Rico - 2018.

He has presented research in countries such as Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, United States, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Japan, Chile, China, Spain, Bolivia, Estonia, Mexico and Romania.

He is a member of the board of directors of Pública Espacio, Teatro Breve (President), 80grados (Treasurer) and Pro Arte Musical (Artistic Director).
