Jose Sanchez

Jose Sanchez is a beginning farmer, and attorney with experience in civil law and administrative government processes. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of PR in Mayagüez. He also has a Juris Doctor from Eugenio María de Hostos School of Law, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Catholic University of PR.

José is the Executive Director of Victus Puerto Rico, a non-profit organization created with the purpose of promoting the comprehensive growth of Historically Underserved Farmers, assisting them in the development of successful and self-sustaining businesses. Currently, Victus has three active programs: 1) the “PR Agricultural Legacy Initiative”, dedicated to provide legal assistance to Historically Underserved Farmers with heirs’ property issues, helping them obtaining the legal ownership of their inherited lands; 2) the "Hispanic Climate-Smart Commodities Initiative", a pilot project that is assisting beef and dairy producers, small ruminants producers, and free range chickens producers in PR and Florida, to establish silvopasture systems with trees that have a high capacity of sequestering carbon in the soil, measuring its environmental outcomes and providing education in Carbon Credits Markets; and 3) "Expanding CRP-TIP Access to Hispanic Producers" program, a cooperative agreement with the USDA Farm Service Agency of Texas and New Mexico dedicated to identify barriers and opportunities of Hispanic Farmers in the CRP-TIP program, and make recommendations to the agency to improve their services.

As part of his affiliations, he participates as a member of the Agriculture Commission of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, and collaborates with other institutions in the Multisector Board of Agricultural Public Policy of PR.
