Juan Carlos Sosa-Varela

Dr. Juan Carlos Sosa Varela is the Dean of the Division of Business, Tourism and Entrepreneurship at Universidad Ana G. Méndez and is a Professor of International Business and Marketing. He was the Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship for six years at the University of Turabo, now Gurabo campus. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at business schools in Europe, Latin America, and India.

Dr. Sosa is a prolific author with over 40 articles in internationally refereed journals, book chapters, and over 150 international presentations. Since 2014, he has been an Associate Editor of the European Business Review, a Q1 journal published by Emerald Publishing. In October 2022, he was appointed as an Associate Editor of Revista de Administracao de Empresas, a Q2 journal published by Fundação Getulio Vargas (Brazil) and is a member of numerous academic boards worldwide.
Dr. Sosa has received several honors and awards for his significant contributions to business education. In 2020, Nanyang Business School in Singapore named him one of the 75 most influential marketing professors in the world, and he was one of only five Latin Americans to receive this recognition. In August 2021, he was appointed as a global ambassador of Emerald Publishing. He received the "Excellence Award" from the Association of Industrialists of Puerto Rico for his contribution to business education in the country.

Dr. Sosa has also provided consultation services to companies such as Cemex, Pepsi, Mattel Brands, Diageo, and Puerto Rico’s Credit Unions. Before joining academia, he was a publicist at Leo Burnett, directed a marketing division in Triple-S Inc. (Puerto Rico’s largest health insurance company), and was a Strategic Marketing Consultant at Strategos. In these roles, Dr. Sosa managed the accounts of several renowned brands such as McDonalds, Kellogg Caribbean, Keebler, Bacardi, Medalla Beer, Procter & Gamble, Shell, and Philip Morris.

In October 2019, he was selected as a board member of the Latin American Council of Management Schools (CLADEA), becoming the first Puerto Rican to be appointed to such a board in its more than 50-year history. In August 2024, he was selected as a member of the Latin American Advisory Board of AACSB Business Accreditation.

Dr. Sosa has a Ph.D. in International Business from the University of Puerto Rico and postdoctoral studies at the Maastricht School of Business in the Netherlands.
