KELVIN KURIA

Kelvin Macharia Kuria – Biography & Accolades
Tech Visionary | Youth Empowerment Advocate | Award-Winning Entrepreneur

Kelvin Macharia Kuria is a visionary African entrepreneur, innovator, and technologist with over a decade of transformative impact in the security technology and innovation sector. He is the Founder and CEO of Sunrise Tracking and Sunrise Innovations Limited, two trailblazing companies delivering cutting-edge Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in security, smart surveillance, and sustainable technology across Africa.

At the helm of these ventures, Kelvin has pioneered advanced vehicle telematics systems, fuel management solutions, smart CCTV surveillance, electric fencing, top-range drones, biometric security technologies, and consumer electronics—including Android TVs and smart drones. His work empowers individuals, institutions, and cities to become safer, smarter, and more efficient through the power of localized innovation.

Kelvin is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Nairobi, building on a lifelong journey of learning, entrepreneurship, and leadership. He is a GSP Scholar (2011) in Entrepreneurship and Leadership from the prestigious African Leadership Academy (ALA) in South Africa—an incubator for Africa’s next generation of changemakers. In 2015, he became a Mandela Washington Fellow under the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), studying Civic Leadership at Dartmouth College, an Ivy League university in the United States.

Kelvin’s influence extends far beyond business. He is a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, innovation, and sustainable development. In 2017, he represented Kenya and UN Women at the United Nations General Assembly during the 61st Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61) Youth Forum, championing SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through youth entrepreneurship. He was also a contributor to the TICAD VI Youth Declaration, which emphasized the power of youth-led innovation and research-driven entrepreneurship in Africa’s transformation.

His commitment to mentorship and education is evident in his role as a Titan Fellow at the Keroche Foundation Academy, where he shares his journey to inspire young entrepreneurs to bridge knowledge gaps. He mentors scholars under the Equity Group Foundation's Wings to Fly Program and has served as a Hult Prize Judge at Kabarak University and a Panelist for Africa Youth Awards, helping shape the next generation of African disruptors.

In 2025, he represented his companies and Kenya at the East Africa Infrastructure & Water Expo, co-located with Big 5 Construct Ethiopia, held at Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa, strengthening regional partnerships for infrastructure and smart water innovations.
