Baboucarr Khan

I am the Co-Founding CEO of Reliance Financial Services, established in 2006. Under his leadership, Reliance has grown into the largest Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI) in The Gambia, employing over 250 people and managing revenue and profit budgets of $5.5 million and $1.7 million respectively for the year ending December 2025. He has led the organization’s strategic growth, operational expansion, and financial performance, positioning Reliance as a key driver of financial inclusion and economic empowerment in the country.

Prior to founding Reliance, Baboucarr was Head of Consumer Banking at Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in The Gambia and a member of the bank’s management team. He managed a revenue budget of $7 million—approximately 60% of SCB’s total budget—and led a team of 70 professionals with responsibility for strategy, budgeting, product innovation, staff development, risk management, and service delivery.

At SCB, Baboucarr and his team won the global Cowbell Award in both 2004 and 2005 for achieving the highest year-on-year revenue and deposit growth in the SCB Group. He also re-launched the bank’s personal installment loan product by introducing a direct sales force, which more than doubled the portfolio from $1.6 million to $3.8 million in just six months, raising market share from 10% to 50%. He was also instrumental in developing and launching the first residential mortgage product in The Gambia.

Earlier, Baboucarr served as Head of Audit at KPMG, where he led audit engagements across diverse sectors including banking, insurance, telecommunications, agriculture, development organizations, ports, and pension funds.

A Fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK, Baboucarr has completed executive leadership programs at INSEAD, Wharton Business School, and the Frankfurt School of Management and Finance. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of GAMTEL & GAMCEL and as a Non-Executive Director of the National Audit Office.
