Leonardo De La Hoz Borrego: Sustainability Advocate, Entrepreneur, and Innovator
Leonardo De La Hoz Borrego is a versatile industrial engineer, entrepreneur, and sustainability advocate with over three decades of experience in business development, chemical product innovation, and sustainable transformation. Born in 1973 in Colombia, Leonardo graduated from Universidad del Norte with a degree in Industrial Engineering and has pursued advanced studies in sustainability, educational technology, and product management.
Currently residing in Barranquilla’s Metropolitan Area, Leonardo is the Director of Sustainability and Innovation at Protemad Colombia and co-owner of I+DE SAS, a company specializing in the design and commercialization of chemical specialties. His work spans the development of copper-based wood protection complexes and sustainable additives for material preservation.
Leonardo is a thought leader in sustainability, integrating frameworks like the DRIVE model into his business strategies to address megatrends such as resource scarcity and inequality. As an independent member of the Colombian Green Building Council's Education Committee, he actively promotes sustainable construction practices.
His dedication to lifelong learning is evident in his academic achievements, including an Executive Master’s in Sustainability Transition Management from the University of Bologna Business School and ongoing studies in Educational Technology at Tartu University. He is also pursuing a Master’s in Product Management at IU Hochschule, focusing on innovative business strategies.
Leonardo envisions establishing a global institute for healthy lifestyle education and plans to further his studies in biochemistry, emphasizing human health. Fluent in multiple languages, he is advancing his German proficiency to support his international aspirations.
Beyond his professional life, Leonardo is a devoted father to Leonardo José (30), Daniela (29), Ale (23), and Samuel (10). He finds joy in tennis, music, self-regulated learning, and promoting wellness through balanced nutrition and fitness. His entrepreneurial vision and commitment to sustainability continue to inspire those around him as he develops impactful solutions for a better world.
