Rucy Ainomugisha

I am a passionate Ugandan social entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and Grants & Business Development Manager at Ablestate Uganda, a youth-led initiative dedicated to bridging the digital divide and empowering underserved communities with digital skills. With a strong belief that access to digital knowledge is a human right, I have committed my career to creating inclusive, sustainable pathways for young people especially women, refugees, and persons with disabilities to participate in the digital economy.

Ablestate was born out of a shared concern for the growing digital exclusion facing young people in Uganda and across Africa. Many youths are unemployed or underemployed, not because they lack talent, but because they lack access to digital tools, training, and opportunities. Through Ablestate, we train young people in web design, system development, and graphic design, equipping them with practical, marketable skills that allow them to freelance, start digital businesses, or secure decent jobs.

As the Grants and Business Development Manager, my core responsibility is to ensure the sustainability and growth of our organization. I lead in writing grant proposals, forging partnerships with local and international stakeholders, and securing funding to expand our programs. I also oversee strategy development, mentor junior team members, and help shape our vision for scale. I have successfully built collaborations with community leaders, youth organizations, and training hubs to ensure Ablestate reaches the most marginalized youth.

Beyond fundraising, I play a central role in program design, integrating entrepreneurship and financial literacy into our training to ensure our beneficiaries do not just gain skills they also understand how to monetize them. We help youth transition into freelancing, digital employment, or launching micro-enterprises. Many of our graduates have gone on to support their families, become first-time earners, or even train others in their communities creating a ripple effect of empowerment and digital inclusion.

My academic background in economics has given me a strong foundation in systems thinking, impact evaluation, and data-driven decision-making. I also hold certifications in digital transformation and project management, which enhance my ability to lead innovative programs that align with global trends.

As a young female leader in tech and development, I understand the unique challenges faced by girls and women in accessing opportunities. Ihave made it a personal mission to ensure that Ablestate’s programs are inclusive, safe, and empowering for young women, many of whom have dropped out of school, are single mothers, or come from refugee settlements.

Our long-term vision is to reach 100,000 youth by 2030, equipping them with the skills, tools, and networks to thrive in the global digital economy. We aim to scale our model across Uganda and East Africa, partner with global platforms to connect our graduates to real jobs, and advocate for inclusive digital policies.

Joining the Exponeur Academy presents a unique opportunity to take Ablestate to the next level. I am seeking not only mentorship and guidance from seasoned entrepreneurs but also exposure to investor networks and international collaborators who can help us scale our impact. I believe this program will equip me with the tools, perspectives, and partnerships needed to lead Ablestate into a pan-African force for digital empowerment.

I am also excited by the opportunity to contribute to the global conversation at Expo 2025 Osaka and to learn from other changemakers building transformative solutions across sectors. I bring with me a collaborative spirit, a deep commitment to social justice, and the resilience that comes from working in under-resourced communities. I am ready to grow, lead, and represent the voices of young digital innovators from Africa.

In everything I do, I am guided by the belief that young people are not just the future they are the present. By investing in their potential today, we can build more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable societies for tomorrow.
