Marcos Vega

Bachelor degree in Agricultural Economics in Universidad de Costa Rica, 1988. Master’s degree in Agribusiness in Universidad de Costa Rica in association with Iowa State University, 2000. PhD Candidate in DBA with ADEN Business School.

He worked in different companies in the Costa Rican agribusiness sector for more than 18 years, holding management and leadership positions in the Heredia Inter-Institutional Association (Director of the Strawberry Export Project), the Guanacaste and Montes de Oro Coffee Growers Cooperatives Consortium (General Manager), the Banco Cooperativo de Costra Rica (Head of the Technical Unit of the MAG/Bancoop Trust), the Cooperativa de Productores de Café La Anita de Orosi (General Manager), and the National Institute of Biodiversity (Promoter and Financial Specialist of the Project INBio/IDB). He was a part-time professor in the Agricultural Economics program at the University of Costa Rica from 1995 to 2001. He developed private consultancies in the Agribusiness area for different entities in Costa Rica and Honduras, such as the National Learning Institute, the Chamber of Pork Industry of Costa Rica, and the Choluteca Beekeeping Cooperative.

He was an associate professor of the Agribusiness Administration Department at the Escuela Agrícola Panamericana, Universidad Zamorano, in Honduras, from 2001 to 2018. There he also developed outreach projects, giving training in business plans, sales administration, cost accounting, strategy, and administration in general, aimed at entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups in the Central American region. He was the Technical Head of the Finance and Marketing Unit of the Zamorano University enterprises for 8 years. He was also director of the Zamorano Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center from 2016 to 2018. He has developed research in the areas of family entrepreneurship, where he has written 3 case studies as lead author and secondary author, which have been published or selected in forums such as the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association and Emerald Review. He is currently executive director of prendho / UTPL, the business incubator and accelerator of Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) and visiting professor at the same university, in the Chair of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), and the MBA with a mention in Innovation, since the June 2018
