Kevin Phillipson

Kevin started his first business at 12 and has been self-employed since. He has owned technology, media, finance, and construction companies and currently has businesses in various retail sectors, travel, human performance, and consulting. He is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, the Director of the university’s Center for Business Excellence, and the Director of the Study Abroad program for the School of Business.

He earned a doctorate in business administration with a research focus on entrepreneurship and improving human performance, a master’s degree in business administration, sports management, and marketing, and a bachelor’s degree. Kevin conducts academic research to complement his teaching and is finishing up two books to inspire young adults.

He founded the West Texas Performance Academy, which focuses on enhancing human performance in personal, professional, academic, and athletic realms. He is the head coach of the West Texas Texans Rugby 7's programs. With over 50 years in rugby, he actively played for 42 years. He played representative-level rugby while serving in the South African Army, received a scholarship to England for advanced coaching development, and was named Coach of the Month in April 2020 for National College Rugby. As an avid golfer, he enjoys golf with his son and students.

He is a member of Sigma Beta Delta, the International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration. He is also an honorary member of Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society. He received his DTM from Toastmasters International, their Leadership Excellence award, and the Ralph Helm Fellowship awarded from Lions International. Former board member of NSCRO (National Small College Rugby Organization, now National College Rugby). Served on the Founding Board of the First State Military Academy, a JROTC Marine Corp Charter school. Served as a US Air Force Honorary Commander at Dover Air Force base with the 512th MSG in 2015 and 2016 and Dyess Air Force base with the 345th BS since 2023. He served in the South African Army and was awarded the Commanding Officer's Commendation award. He was a sworn CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for foster children.

He married Angie in 2006, and they parent seven children, have five grandchildren, and three Golden Retrievers. They also have many other kids worldwide who call them mom and dad. Kevin was born in South Africa, immigrated to the USA in 1992, became a U.S. citizen in 2004, and is now a proud Texan.
