Rafael Marin

Mr. Rafael E. Marín has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in Finance from the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus. In 1999 he obtained a master’s degree in business administration with a major also in Finance from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico Metro Campus. He has had experience in banking, working in institutions such as Citibank, N.A. and Banco Santander Puerto Rico. He has also been a Professor at NUC University in Loíza, PR (2001-2003) and at the Fajardo Campus of the Inter-American University (2006).
In 2005 he started as a Business Consultant at the Fajardo Regional Center of the PR-SBTDC of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and in 2008 moved to the San Juan Regional Center as a Commercialization and Technology Consultant. He represented Puerto Rico as the State Star Performer (employee of the year) at America's SBDC's Annual Convention for four consecutive years. In 2011 he was promoted to the position of Regional Director of Fajardo SBTDC, tasked with renewing the client portfolio and establishing agreements with municipalities and important companies in the region. In December 2014, the Fajardo Regional Center was awarded Center of the Year. Between 2011 and 2015 he stood out as a facilitator in the seminars of the Bladrige Educational Program, which aims for companies to develop their level of excellence divided into seven criteria: Leadership, Strategic Planning, Customer Focus, Measurement/Analysis, Workforce, Operational Approach and Results. By 2013 he completed the SBA “Take Your Business Global” Certification to work with export businesses. During the sixteen years that he worked in the PR-SBTDC program, Mr. Marín managed to grant $21.5 million in financing for businesses, which represented the creation of 890 jobs and the retention of 2,305 in the case of established businesses. Likewise, he has been responsible for the creation of 100 new businesses and 64 success stories.
Between 2016 and 2019 he served as Dean of Administrative Affairs at the Fajardo Campus of the Interamerican University. During this period, he was able to have a greater administrative, strategic and operational vision, to achieve the established goals and assertively face the budgetary, financial and administrative challenges of the campus.
In 2019 he returned to the PR-SBTDC and was eventually appointed Director of the International Trade Center in March 2020. Since 2022 he has served as Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico and recently was appointe
