The air was charged with anticipation as the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024 (GEW 2024) kicked off. The opening ceremony of Web Summit was something of a grand display, both visually and emotionally, and brought together under one roof an audience of dreamers, innovators and global disruptors. It wasn’t just the start of a week, it was the catalyst of something much bigger.
There’s nothing more inspiring than the keynote address delivered by the United States Ambassador Howard A. Van Vranken. “Youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow but are the architects of the present,” he said as he encouraged innovations and the breaking of barriers. While presenting the concept of collaborative ecosystems and international entrepreneurship, the Ambassador described the world where problems such as unemployment, climate change or even the lack of digital services can be solved by communal creation of startups.
Next, a group of professional businessmen and women outlined their stories, and each narrative was soaked in information about hardships, innovation, and risk management. They did an excellent job in organizing the event; the transitions were perfectly done and the energy in the room then targeted the reason behind the entrepreneurial conversation.
It is where networking sessions in the evening were most effective. This was a proud moment for me to be able to identify with the leaders from Botswana and find like-minded individuals who are working to change the world. It moved more than from introduction and into action on the first day.
