The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) today awarded the Innovation Education Center, College of Engineering at Peking University with the organization’s first-ever Compass Award for Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) Campaign of the Year.

The GEN Compass Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions have helped entrepreneurs start and scale new businesses. The Entrepreneurship World Cup Campaign of the Year Award is given to the national organizing team that ran the best overall competition in 2020. China’s team, led by Peking University, scored first, followed by teams in Malaysia, Argentina, Nigeria and Singapore.

Peking University receives this honor for its outstanding performance securing partnerships with recognized entrepreneurship ecosystem partners; attracting a high number of quality applicants; and the strength of its leadership team, particularly during a pandemic that presented new challenges to event organizers.

“Peking University set an example of creativity and resilience during uncertain times,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. “Its perseverance gave hope to organizers around the world and this award is our recognition of its hard work and dedication to supporting China’s entrepreneurs.”

Peking University was one of just a few organizers to host in-person national Entrepreneurship World Cup finals in 2020 and leveraged technology in creative ways to attract new participants. The university is also responsible for bringing the competition to China in 2019 with support from the Beckstone Group, the Founder H Fund and Techcode SME Service Company.

“This award is an affirmation and incentive to our team to organize innovation and entrepreneurship events in China,” said Li Yongmei, assistant dean of the Peking University College of Engineering. “And, it will enable more young people to achieve their passions, enthusiasm and dreams thanks to the resources provided through EWC.”

The 2021 GEN Compass Award for Entrepreneurship World Cup Campaign of the Year will be announced at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress the week of November 14-17, 2021.
