An Evening with Stacey Vanek Smith, Host of The Indicator from NPR’s Planet Money

Stacey Vanek Smith, host of The Indicator from NPR’s Planet Money, will be the keynote speaker for Hudson’s 8th celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Vanek Smith will discuss her latest book, Machiavelli for Women: Defend Your Worth, Grow Your Ambition, and Win the Workplace, a guide for how women can take and maintain power in careers where they have long been cast as second-best. While aimed toward women, Booklist, in a starred review, states that "this playbook from NPR host Smith could work for any sex… Guidance to relate to, and follow.”

Machiavelli for Women, perfect for fans of Lean In, is a guide for how women (or anyone) can apply the principles of 16th-century philosopher, Niccolò Machiavelli, to their work lives. Guy Raz, host and creator of How I Built This, calls this book “accessible and inspiring” stating that “gender inequity in our culture is one of the enduring challenges of our time. And this book is an outstanding addition to the body of work around how to defeat it.” Stacey Vanek Smith is a longtime public reporter and host. She currently hosts NPR’s The Indicator from Planet Money, a daily podcast that covers trending business and economic news. She previously served as a correspondent and host for NPR’s Planet Money and Marketplace. Smith is a graduate of Princeton University and Columbia University.

A “Community Read” of the book is planned and multiple copies of the book will be available at the Hudson Library and for purchase at The Learned Owl Book Shop. Registration for this program is required and a valid email address is required at the time of registration. Participants will receive an email invitation to attend the program, hosted on Zoom, a day before the program begins.
