ABOUT THE GUEST PRESENTERS

• Sultan White earned his BA in Economics from University of Hawai'i at Manoa and his MA in Anthropology from Columbia University. After graduating from Columbia, he moved to Washington, D.C. to intern at the Obama Foundation. Sultan's professional career was mainly nurtured in Honolulu, starting with his fellowship at Sultan Ventures; his internship at Elemental Excelerator; and clerkship for the Energy and Environmental Protection Committee at the Hawai'i House of Representatives. He also worked with the Honolulu Office of Economic Revitalization as the Innovation & Technology Manager, facilitating a $2.5M Innovation Fund that supported local organizations deploying solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic hardships. He is currently the Entrepreneurship Specialist at Pacific Gateway Center, assisting kamaʻāina entrepreneurs along the farm-to-table continuum.

• Mary Dale is a native Californian, bringing with her a vast array of International Trade knowledge. Mary previously worked at the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Los Angeles District Office, where she served as the SCORE Coordinator until she transferred to the U.S. Export Assistance Center in 1993 as a Research Assistant. She also previously worked for Union Bank in the Trust and Investment Division as a Business Development Assistant from 1984 to 1986. Mary moved to Hawai'i in 2000 to join the Economic Development Division as an Economic Development Specialist/SBDC Project Officer and support the agency's outreach efforts. Mary has for the last four years coordinated an educational program for new export companies. These companies have gone on to increase their international sales at a steady rate. Mary transferred from the Economic Development Division to the Finance in 2004 as a Business Development Specialist and now assists small businesses through SBA's financial and technical assistance programs. She has played a key role in establishing SBA outreach locations at the Business Action Center, and in Leeward, Oahu area with the Ewa Beach CBDO, and InPeace in Waianae where she has offered one-on-one counseling and provided small business workshops. For the last 12 years, Mary has coordinated a Business Development Training Program for small businesses that want to do business with the federal government. This training program has helped educate small businesses with marketing, responding to proposals, financing and other necessary contracting skills.
