As they say, time flies when you’re having fun. The 13th and 14th marks the last few days of programming for the WiSci Camp, wrapping up final projects and presentations and celebrating everyone’s achievements over these last three weeks at the closing ceremony!
While finishing up our projects, all that have involved the brilliant minds of our campers, we prepared for our final presentations. In a friendly competition, our winners are judged on: innovation (originality/creativity); societal impact; entrepreneurship (viable business model, consumer demand); technical rigor (usage of Microsoft, Intel & other technologies); and presentation (oral, visual, organization). Participants also voted on projects for a category called “Campers’ Favorite.”
The African Leadership Academy (ALA) came to speak to us. ALA combines a world-class faculty and unique instructional methods to create a strong studentcentered curriculum. The goal of the ALA curriculum is to provide young leaders with the knowledge and inspiration they need to take action as agents of positive change on the African continent.
The Graduation Ceremony was a proven success! Many distinguished guests joined us in a WiSci celebration, including U.S. Ambassador Barks-Ruggles, Rwandan Minister of Education Papias Musafiri, and the First Lady Jeanette Kagame! Followed by a group photo, murals designed by the participants were presented to the Akilah Institute, the first and only institution of higher education exclusively for women in Rwanda.
It has been a truly memorable three weeks in Rwanda for the WiSci Camp! Tonight, we will all be packing and coming together for a final gathering before heading home tomorrow!
