How is it Friday already?! Our days were filled with more Kodu programming, team building, and culture!
Kodu has been on our minds for Week 1. Classes ended with presentations on the computer-based game in a “show and tell” format in each classroom.
Our leadership workshops included “Qualities of Being a Good Leader” and “Leading your Peers & Mobilizing Your Community.” Our WiSci campers found that the best qualities of leadership include clear communication, confidence, and the ability to empower others.
Our mentor hours were spent with Hehe Labs Founder, Clarisse Iribagiza; Rural Development Specialist at USAID, Aimee Mpambara; and George Mulamula, CEO of the Tanzania Commisson for Science and Technology. Hehe labs is a leading Mobile Technologies and Research & Innovation Lab based in Kigali, Rwanda. USAID , an agency through the United States Government, provides economic, development, and humanitarian assistance around the world.
FREE TIME: Laptop labs are open from 7:30am-9:30pm for communicating home, continuing to work on their Kodu projects, and preparing for culture night.
Personality/Leadership Matrix: Does your camper act more like a koala (supporter), lion (controller), owl (analyzer) or peacock (promoter)? We found out on Wednesday evening! Based on this short quiz, the girls assessed their dominant personality style. Depending on the animal, teams were then grouped to partake in an engineering competition where they were asked to build bridges out of JUST cardboard and tape. The winning bridges were able to hold more than TWENTY plates!
Culture Night: Ethiopia and Ghana were up next to represent their countries.
Tomorrow we’re headed to Kigali at 7:00am for our first excursion.
